Patient Validation is a critical safety feature. Its primary purpose is to cross-reference multiple identifiers (like Name, DOB, and Sex) received in a message against the record found via the ID. If the ID points to " John Doe " but the message text says " Jane Smith, " validation will fail and prevent clinical data from filing to the wrong patient record , which is a major patient safety risk.

Because of the high risk associated with misidentifying patients, Epic embeds " hard stops " in the Bridges configuration. For many standard interface types, the system requires Patient Validation to be active. If an organization decides to disable it, the administrator must provide a formal justification within the system before the interface is permitted to start.

In Bridges, an error is tied to a specific instance of a message. Resubmitting or retriggering a message (Options B and D) essentially tells the system to try again or create a new message, which clears or " deletes " the error status associated with the previous failed attempt. Additionally, users can manually select Delete Error within an Error Log Report (Option C) to administratively clear an error that no longer requires action. Releasing an error from a workqueue (Option A) merely removes it from that specific list; it does not delete the error from the system logs.

The Criteria tab allows for precise filtering of logs. Analysts can search for errors associated with a specific message (Option B), filter for specific error codes to investigate a known issue (Option C), or isolate critical issues by filtering for a severity of " Failure " (Option D). Severity overrides (Option A) are a configuration setting rather than a standard search filter for the log report itself.

The Interface Monitor is the primary dashboard for interface administrators. It provides a comprehensive overview of health, including whether the interface is connected ( Communication status ), the volume of traffic waiting to be processed ( Control Queue ), any messages that were manually bypassed ( skipped messages ), and a summary of errors encountered during the day.

Workqueue rules in Bridges are generally not retroactive by default. Once you update a rule, only future occurrences of the error will be caught by the new logic (Option A). Any errors that were already in the workqueue from previous rules will remain there (Option C). To get past occurrences of the new error into the workqueue, you would need to run the Maintenance utility described in Question 26.

The Communications Daemon is only responsible for the transport of the message (connecting to the external system and moving raw data). The process of translating that data and filing it into Epic’s database (Chronicles) is handled by the Filer Daemon .

Duplicate Prevention logic is shared across the Epic platform through the Identity Duplicate Configuration (IDC) record. This record defines the scoring logic and the high and low thresholds used to determine if a patient being created by an interface is a definite match to an existing record, a potential duplicate that needs review, or a completely new patient. Bridges leverages these enterprise-wide Identity settings to ensure consistency in how duplicates are handled.

When using the Error Resolution Planner or triaging logs, analysts categorize errors into three main " buckets " to define the workflow: Fix (the data or configuration needs to be corrected), Ignore (the error is expected or harmless and requires no action), and Work (the error requires further investigation or manual intervention). While " Suppress " is a configuration action and " Purge " is a maintenance task, they are not considered the standard triage buckets for active error management.

The primary purpose of the Error Log Report is to provide a granular list of individual Error instances. While these errors are linked to messages, the report result list displays the errors themselves, allowing analysts to see the specific failure reason, time, and error code for every occurrence.
