Communication practices that are effective at corporate headquarters may not work equally well in regional offices because expectations regarding directness, hierarchy, formality, questioning, silence, and relationship building can differ substantially. Assuming that headquarters norms, relationships, or viewpoints apply globally can cause misunderstanding and weaken cooperation during interviews. Internal auditors should remain professionally objective while demonstrating cultural awareness and adjusting how questions and information are communicated. This supports rapport, accurate information gathering, and effective stakeholder relationships without compromising the engagement’s objectives. Therefore, adapting communication techniques to each regional environment is more appropriate than assuming consistency across geographically and culturally diverse offices.
