A custom Apex integration adapter is justified when the downstream system requires a payload format and error semantics that the standard adapters and declarative mappings cannot represent cleanly. Apex can control serialization, HTTP behavior, response parsing, exception translation, and the mapping of non-standard errors into Order Management processing while still being invoked through the normal System Interface and orchestration model. This approach is preferable because it uses the platform feature designed for the exact lifecycle stage involved, rather than forcing the requirement into a neighboring layer. DataRaptor/Data Mapper can transform data but does not by itself implement the complete transport and custom response semantics. Manual handling should not replace an integration that can be automated reliably. In Communications Cloud, that separation materially affects maintainability, performance, and the accuracy of future MACD or order-processing behavior. The solution should therefore preserve parent-child and inventory dependencies, use standard qualification or orchestration semantics, and ensure that downstream systems receive only the information relevant to their responsibility. The same design also simplifies regression testing because the business rule is expressed in one authoritative place and can be validated independently from unrelated product or integration behavior.
