For an FC-based online Foreign LUN Import, ONTAP requires connectivity on both sides of the migration path. On the backend, ONTAP acts as a SCSI initiator when reading data from the foreign storage array; NetApp therefore specifies that FC FLI requires at least one FC port per controller capable of operating in initiator mode, with redundant ports preferred. On the frontend, the destination ONTAP LUN must be presented to the host so that application I/O can resume while the import continues.
