The volume recovery queue is the correct recovery mechanism when a volume was accidentally deleted recently and no backups exist. ONTAP protects against accidental deletion by retaining deleted volumes in a recovery queue for a configured retention period, allowing administrators to recover them before they are permanently purged. A volume Snapshot cannot be used if the volume itself has been deleted and no accessible backup copy exists. An aggregate Snapshot revert is not a valid or normal ONTAP recovery method for restoring an individual deleted volume and would be far too disruptive. ONTAP System Manager may provide a graphical way to recover deleted volumes in later versions, but the feature being tested is the volume recovery queue itself. The support engineer should immediately check retention time, locate the deleted volume in the recovery queue, recover it, and then restore required junction or mapping details.
