The NetApp HCI management node, or mNode, communicates with activeiq.solidfire.com and the Cloud Data Services portal. The mNode provides management services, telemetry collection, updates, and connectivity between the Element environment and NetApp cloud/support services. The vSphere plug-in is used by administrators to manage Element storage from VMware vCenter, but it is not the component responsible for cloud telemetry communication. Trident provides Kubernetes persistent storage orchestration and is unrelated to Active IQ connectivity for HCI. The Element Management Interface is a management UI/API surface, not the telemetry bridge described in the question. In support practice, mNode health, network access, DNS, certificates, and outbound connectivity are checked when HCI systems are not reporting correctly to Active IQ or cloud services. Without a healthy mNode path, cloud-based visibility and support automation can be incomplete even when the storage cluster itself is serving data.
