In Dynamics 365 Business Central, security is defined by assigning permissions to users. Each permission is associated with an object type. The allowed permission types differ depending on the object type:

Table

This refers to the table object definition, not its data.

Permissions allowed: Execute only (to access the table object, metadata).

Actual data permissions (read, insert, modify, delete) are handled separately by Table Data.

Page

A page is an interface object (e.g., Card, List).

Permissions allowed: Execute (grants access to run or view the page).

Table Data

Refers to the actual records stored in the database.

Permissions allowed: Read, Insert, Modify, Delete (CRUD).

This is where you control access to data, not just the object structure.

System

System objects are internal to the platform (system tables, codeunits).

Permissions allowed: Execute to allow access to system-level functionality.
