Interim Accounting sends updates to ClearPass every few minutes regarding how much data a client has used. By using only Start/Stop messages, ClearPass still knows exactly when a user connects and disconnects (which is sufficient for managing session-based licenses), but the system avoids the overhead of constant updates, leading to more efficient resource usage.
