Apple’sApps and Bookssection in ABM allows organizations to purchase licenses and assign them to locations. Apple Learning confirms that when licenses are transferred from one location to another, thetotal license count remains unchanged. The licenses are simply reallocated within the organization. They cannot be transferred if already assigned to devices or users — those must first be unassigned. Apple does not require approval for transfers between internal locations, as the entire pool remains within the same ABM account. Additionally, macOS installation has no relation to license transfers. The primary purpose of this feature is organizational flexibility, enabling licenses to be moved between campuses, schools, or departments as needs change, without altering the overall purchased quantity.
