Elastic Beanstalk application version lifecycle settings can delete old application versions from Elastic Beanstalk records and can optionally delete the source bundle from the S3 bucket. To retain the source code, the lifecycle policy must be configured not to delete the source bundle from S3. Enabling S3 versioning is not the correct control because Elastic Beanstalk itself can be configured to retain or delete source bundles. Increasing the version quota only changes how many application versions Elastic Beanstalk tracks before lifecycle cleanup occurs; it does not guarantee S3 source bundle retention. Disabling a separate S3 lifecycle policy is not the targeted Elastic Beanstalk setting.
