Foreign LUN Import (FLI) is ONTAP ' s native block-level migration technology for importing SAN LUN data from an external source array into native ONTAP LUNs. FLI operates at the storage layer rather than requiring host file-copy utilities and supports controlled migration workflows across heterogeneous SAN environments. ONTAP initiator ports access the source array ' s target ports through the FC fabric, after which an import relationship is established between the source LUN and the destination ONTAP LUN. SyncMirror is used for synchronous plex mirroring within MetroCluster architecture, while SnapMirror and BlueXP replication are ONTAP replication technologies and do not provide this foreign-array LUN import workflow.
