According to the BABOK® Guide, traceability is the ability to track the life of a requirement in both a forward and backward direction. Traceability helps to manage the impact of changes, assess the quality of the solution, and ensure that the solution meets the business needs. The business analyst (BA) should plan the traceability approach for a project to ensure that the level of detail and the relationships between requirements are appropriate for the project scope, complexity, andstakeholders. The traceability approach should provide enough detail to add value without excessive overhead, such as time, cost, and effort.
