DAS has several recognized disadvantages in enterprise storage architecture. Because storage is directly attached to one server, it is difficult to expand flexibly across many hosts, which leads to poor scalability. Resource utilization is also low because unused capacity attached to one server cannot be easily shared by other servers. Reliability can also be limited because DAS usually lacks the advanced redundancy, multipathing, clustering, and centralized management features available in SAN or NAS storage systems. However, simple connection is not a disadvantage. It is actually one of DAS’s main advantages. DAS is easy to deploy because it connects directly to the server through local interfaces without requiring FC switches, Ethernet storage networks, or complex configuration. Therefore, the option that is not a disadvantage of DAS is simple connection.
