The correct sequence is 3,2,4,1,5. Before leaving the original conversation, the user should identify the source documents, policies, examples, or other references that must remain available. The user can then summarize the conversation’s active goals, decisions, constraints, unresolved issues, and next actions without carrying forward irrelevant discussion.

Persistent reference materials should next be placed in the appropriate Project knowledge base or attached to the new conversation. The user then starts a fresh chat using the summary as compact working context. Finally, the user confirms that Claude has understood the objective and that the new conversation is focused before substantive work continues.

Starting a new chat before preparing the summary, as in Option C, risks losing important state or requiring repeated reconstruction. A summary is not a substitute for authoritative reference documents; durable sources should be preserved separately rather than compressed into paraphrased conversational context.
